Vogue notes Pearl River Mart’s “East-Meets-West” Style Inspired by 2016 Met Gala
In Vogue’s coverage of this year’s Met Gala — an annual fundraiser to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute — the emerging trend of Chinese art and culture in daily fashion was front and center, and we were delighted to see a few of Pearl River Mart’s own pieces alongside Gucci and Dior.
Every year, the Met Gala marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibit, which in turn sets the stage for designers and stylists everywhere. Last year’s exhibit, “China: Through the Looking Glass,” shed new light on traditional
Chinese styles and motifs. From Vogue: “Jenny Walton was snapped in a slew of richly embroidered Chinese silk jackets from New York’s Pearl River Mart; Susie Bubble mixed bird and floral prints right down to her painted Gucci bag; and editors from New York to Paris wore satin blouses, robes, and qipao dresses over their jeans.”
This trend hit close to home for the writer from Vogue — she and a colleague picked up matching embroidered slippers from Pearl River Mart. We look forward to seeing more of this “East-Meets- West” style around New York this year!
